Rosalind’s confident expression disappeared. The judge ordered additional court-supervised testing, and the results confirmed the original report. The settlement she had negotiated was immediately reconsidered because her request for $850,000 in support had been based on the belief that all three children were mine. The court reopened the financial proceedings and reviewed custody, property, and support with the new information. The entire situation had changed in a matter of minutes.

But Wyatt was never just a DNA result to me. He was the little boy I had carried to bed, taught to ride a bicycle, and comforted whenever he was afraid. He had done nothing wrong. When the judge asked what I wanted regarding Wyatt, I made my position clear: I still loved him and would not abandon him. At the same time, I believed financial responsibility had to be based on the truth, not information that had been hidden during the marriage.

In the end, the court removed the large support obligation Rosalind had expected and awarded me primary custody of Elliot and Jolene. Colin became involved in Wyatt’s life, while Rosalind had to deal with the consequences of what had happened. Months later, I still remained part of Wyatt’s life. The truth changed everything I thought I knew about my family, but it also gave me a chance to move forward honestly. And for me, that was worth more than any settlement.
